Introducing… 🌈 Tuney TUNES-day // #01 Feat. Zoon ✨

Maybe days of the week don’t mean much for you anymore… they’re kind of all the same now. Every 7-10 days there’s grocery store day and then there’s all the other days…

Or maybe you’re actually an essential member of society and days do still matter, in which case, THANK YOU.

I thought I’d try to give you a reason to look forward to Tuesdays… by calling them Tuney Tunesdays and introducing you to some sonic delights.

Coincidentally, I just came across an artist who I am really excited about and want to shout about from my window, safely.

AKA Zoongide’ewin (Ojibway word for bravery, courage, the Bear Spirit), AKA Daniel Monkman. His debut album, Bleached Wavves, is slated for release with (my fav) domestic indie label, Paper Bag Records in June. I can’t wait to hear it in it’s entirety!

So far Zoon, based out Hamilton, Ontario, has released 3 tracks to tease us with, Vibrant Colours took my breath away. I felt like I was spinning. It’s so soothing, yet a little bit haunting. When I listen to these songs I feel grounded but spun out all at once. Maybe these contradicting qualities are the beauty of shoegaze, or moccasin-gaze as Zoon would rather call it.

There’s some buzz out there already about the upcoming release, American Songwriter featured Zoon for the premier of his latest video, Light Prisms, and provides insight on Daniel Monkman’s background. Zoon also received airplay from Big City, Small World hosted by Errol Nazareth on CBC Radio1.

You can pre-buy the upcoming release on limited edition coloured vinyl at the Paper Bag Records online shop.

(the very cool video above from UMFM101.5 in Winnipeg is 360, so click and drag to watch the session properly)

I’ve added Zoon’s tracks to the Frissonic Shivers playlist.
