Here’s some cool music news for a hot hot heat of a week.
Guion Partners, a music & entertainment mgmt/representation consulting firm based in the US is taking proactive steps to help those looking to pursue a career in the music industry. This firm is administering a scholarship on behalf of the Bessie Smith Estate.
Bessie Smith was a blues and jazz singer/recording artist from Chattanooga, TN. Her records were popular in the 1920s, and she was featured alongside Fletcher Henderson, James P. Johnson, Coleman Hawkins, Don Redmond and Louis Armstrong.
There are 3 prizes: $2,500, $1,500 & $1,000. Eligibility requirements are pretty straightforward: any post-secondary student in the US or Canada (proof of enrolment required). Applicants must submit a 500 word essay on the topica of music therapy or voice as an expressive musical instrument.
